Baby Massage a Brief History
Over 30 yrs ago (1973) the founder of the International Association
of Infant Massage (Vimala McClure) found herself working at a small
orphanage in India. Times were hard, money was short and food was
not plentiful, it was upon leaving the orphanage (on the way to
the train station) that she witnessed a moving scene. A young mum
sat in the dirt by the roadside, massaging and singing to her baby.
This was a scene that she never forgot and following the birth
of her own child began by giving him some Indian Massage each day;
she was delighted by the results and then incorporated some Swedish
massage and yoga / reflexology.
In 1977 she wrote “Infant Massage” and in 1981 The
International Association of Infant Massage” born.
Nearly 25 years later we have Chapters all over the World, ranging
from Argentina and Botswana to the USA and Israel!!
