March / April / May 2020.
It’s a weird time. Loads of social media is full with posts about learning new skills, making bread and how bored everyone is.
I’m one of the lucky ones; my job functions fully from home and as I write, we have been for nearly 2 months. So I’m totally not complaining, the kids are with their mum Monday – Thursday evenings so most of the week I get to fully concentrate on getting work done, and there is only one day a week of Dad’s Lockdown School (DLS).
In the first week of lockdown I had them for 3 days, so DLS was in full swing, and it was the most stressful 3 days of my life. I had client calls, team meetings and a 10 year old that just didn’t want to concentrate on anything. This was at the start; when we thought we had to be full-on teachers. Thankfully we settled on a different pattern; like I said, I am one of the lucky ones.
Anyhow, my heart and admiration goes out to anyone struggling at the moment, especially single parents. It’s not going to get much harder than this. We got this.
